I just picked up a 1990 TT. It was running rough, typically a dead injector, confirmed to be the #6 injector. Since it needed to have the 120K service I decided to do a full plenum pull and replace the injector, all the injector seals as well as new valve cover gaskets, etc. When I pulled the plenum, I was surprised to see injectors of different colors - three were the faded purple/light blue of the stock 370cc TT injectors, and three were the brown color of the stock NA injectors! I found broken pieces of plastic injector tops down below the fuel rail, so it looks like someone did a replacement job using NA injectors. Given what a bitch the brown injectors were to remove from the fuel rail while the blue injectors just popped out, it almost seems like the rail from an NA was used, with TT injectors added. No indication of detonation damage, and spark plugs looked pretty normal, so hopefully it wasn't driven too hard with potential lean conditions. Surprising what you find when you dig into cars with unknown history.
